A finance college is simply one that specializes in a curriculum about finance. The term is often confused with how one is going to "finance" their "college" education, although you will certainly have that worry when attending a financial school. Many universities offer courses and even degrees in finance, which are often found under the umbrella of their business schools. It is estimated that only 20% of full-time colleges are offer only finance-based curricula. Why is this?

A college needs lots of paying students to be successful. A school that offers only degrees in financial matters may have trouble attracting enough students to be a viable business. The more degree programs a university offers, the more students it can attract. However, more programs means less specialization. If you want to become a teacher, find the best teaching college. If you want to become an engineer, locate the best engineering college. If you are headed for the world of high finance, find the best finance school.

A financial school does not need to be a separate entity all its own. Many universities are comprised of several colleges, such as teaching, business, fine arts, and so on. Many are adding a specialized college based on financial-only courses. Local economies have given way to global economies, and financial specialists and analysts are needed to make sense of it all.

The finance curriculum will emphasize courses in financial education, along with classes in business, economics, math, accounting, and maybe even law and insurance. Student participation can involve almost any level, from auditing finance classes, to undergraduate and graduate degrees, up to earning a Ph.D. Online financial degrees are now available, for students who cannot afford to live outside the home, or for adults wanting more economic knowledge.

If you want the best education in a subject, find the best college in that subject that you can afford. As more money managers and financial planners are needed, it should become easier to locate the best finance college to earn your degree.
